About Us

The Cats Whiskers is the areas newest cattery, having opened in May 2006. We provide top quality care and personal attention for your cats in a safe, stress free countryside location. Our aim is to provide your cats with a stimulating and relaxing environment to enjoy whilst they are away from home.

The cattery is located on a quiet village road, in the heart of the Bedfordshire countryside, at the centre of the Forest of Marston Vale. We take bookings from across Bedfordshire, stretching some 20 miles in all directions.

The chalets are brand new and purpose built so meet all the latest standards for design and layout for boarding cats. We have 16 standard chalets and 3 family chalets. The standard chalets can house up to 2 cats and the family chalets can house up to 4, with special oversize outdoor runs!

All the chalets are full height with covered outdoor runs to protect them from rain and wind. All the chalets are naturally ventilated to ensure the indoor areas are kept fresh, but they are also fully insulated and weatherproof to keep them warm in winter and cool in summer. The chalets are separated by full height sneeze panels to keep all our boarders safe and each unit has individual lights and heating for their comfort. The views are across our specially landscaped area, designed with visual feline stimulation in mind! Beyond this is a small paddock where our horse Sulli can often be seen quietly grazing, with open fields beyond.

Our cattery has plenty of parking for visitors and CCTV operating 24 hours a day. We pride ourselves on our hygiene standards and our cleaning and disinfection routines are an important part of the service we offer you.

We are also a Feline Advisory Bureau Listed Cattery. The Feline Advisory Bureau (FAB) is a charity dedicated to promoting the health and welfare of cats through improved feline knowledge, to help us all care better for our cats. FAB has been providing information on cats and their care in health and sickness for many years. The charity has become synonymous with expertise in feline treatment; both in the veterinary field and cat care in general. They also provide information for cat owners on how to find a good boarding cattery.

Our customers can be sure about the standards of construction and care in our cattery. The FAB also raise awareness of good standards of boarding amongst the public. It means that we have the backup and expertise of FAB, a well known organisation in the field of feline welfare.

In order to become listed we had to:

  • Meet the requirements of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Model Licence Conditions & Guidance for Cat Boarding Establishments 1995
  • Be constructed and managed to FAB standards (as laid out in the FAB Standard for Construction and Management of Boarding Catteries and the FAB Boarding Cattery Manual)
  • Have knowledge and practical application of good management standards
This also involves being asked to reaffirm management protocol annually, being revisited periodically and giving assessment forms to clients.
